Reads

So I've been looking for something to read, something beyond fanfic, because I've had the hardest time actually getting through an entire book recently. It's a sad state of the world when I can't actually finish a book - I have stacks of half finished books all over my nightstand right now just waiting to be finished.

Recently I heard some friends talking about The Hunger Games and I thought what the heck why not pick up a copy of the first book and see how I like it. And so I picked it up this weekend while we were out and promptly forgot about it, sitting on my book shelf in the list of to read books that I have waiting for me to finish one of the books in my started stack.

And apparently the third book in the series came out this week, (Mockingjay), and so my friends were talking about how awesome the books are again and I thought why not? And I picked up the book to read a chapter or two last night to see how I liked it and then decide if it was going to move to the top of the stack. Well needless to say one chapter turned into the entire book, I mean really - it was awesome.

I know it's classified as YA, and it's written in first person, but dude - seriously, this book, the flow, the world building, the characters, all of it just fit together so nicely to make a book that I didn't want to stop reading, even when it was over. Which is why I am going out this afternoon to get the other two books in the series. So if you're looking for something new to read, I would thoroughly recommend these books (yes the whole series, even though I haven't read that far yet).

[livejournal.com profile] kaellite did this today and I wanted to play too, since I have books on the brain.

What is on your night stand?

for way too many books on one little night stand )

So yes, a bit of a Neil Gaiman kick these days, but I've actually finished Neverwhere already. Every book has been started. I go through phases in books where I just want to read one all the way through, and sometimes I just like switching between several books each night.

Also I got a library card today :D

I was out and I just decided I needed to get one, so I stopped by the library on the way home and got on - apparently I had one when I was in high school and so they just made it an adult card instead of a juvenile card (but I had a fine from my old card too, lol so I paid that too). And of course when I got my new card I had to get new books.

So I picked out three new ones:

1. Microfictions - Ana Maria Shua
2. Death Note: Another note the Los Angeles BB Murder Cases - Nisioisin
3. Pygmy - Chuck Palahniuk

So yay for new books, I've got them for three weeks :)

ganked from [livejournal.com profile] adelate I couldn't resist a meme about books.

Books! )

So the school year is over - well it's been over for me for the past 3 years (dude I've been finished with college for 3 years now, god) - but for my sisters. And one of them is graduating tomorrow. Kind of crazy to think about, I mean I remember when she was born and now she's graduating from high school - crazy.

Anyways I got her one of these books that I've always wanted to get for myself, the Worst-Case Scenario Handbook, the college edition of course. Of course I'll offer her all sorts of practical advice before she heads out in August, but I feel like it's my duty as her big sister and the only other person in the family who has gone to college to tell her the things she'll need to know and I think this book will help.

In other news - My life is boring.

But we already knew that.

I very nearly bought a copy of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies for myself today while I was out, but in the end I decided that even the addition of Zombies wouldn't really make it appeal more to me - plus I might have nightmares, so yeah.

Um.... I guess that's all. I really need to start really writing my big bang fic and stop thinking about it so much. Maybe I'll do some of that tomorrow before the million hour long graduation ceremony we have to attend. Seriously 635 students from her school, my class was bigger but still it's easier to sit through when it's your own ceremony.

I would discuss and write about my own Literary Theory ideas. And people would think I was freaking amazing for all the insight I have - because I have a heck of a lot.

Gah I am sleepy. It's almost 3. Why am I not in bed? DDD:

Got paid today, for another job that I wouldn't mind being my real job. A few weeks ago a friend of my mom's asked me to look at her website and just check for spelling and grammar and make a few suggestions for how she could improve it. So I did, it took me all of maybe 25 minutes to look it over and type up an email to her about what she could fix, and I got paid 50 bucks.

I could be down with a job where I make $50/25 min.

But seeing as I got paid, I bought some new books, since I don't have enough already. I just wanted something new and different. So I ended up with Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman and Perfume: The Story of a Murderer by Patrick Süskind. I have heard really great things about both so I am looking forward to reading them.

You know I think I am going to start keeping track of all the books I read this year. Maybe movies too, we'll see how ambitious I really am.

So far this year I've read: Snow Crash, Fairy Tales, I started a Barak Obama Biography and got like 2 chapters in before I decided it was a kids books XD (The line 'Many of you reading this work have only known one person in your lifetime to have held the position of president of the United States of America.' kind of gave it away), and I might have reread Twilight *cough*. And right now I am working on Sputnik Sweetheart, A Ship Made of Paper, and Catch 22.

Movies: Let the Right One In, Defiance, Strictly Sexual, The Secret Life of Bees, Repo: The Genetic Opera, Shelter, Choke, and Towelhead.

Yep. Maybe I'll review them, just for my later viewing needs. Or not. Who knows.

Also new icon, the end.

ugh ... well I finished HBP last night, took me forever to read what with my family in town and my boyfriend down after that. But once they were gone I got all the reading out of the way. I'm not going to write about my reaction to the book apart from OMG to the last 4 chapters.

Now I can get back to all that writing I've been putting off recently. So lets expect several new things from me in the upcoming weeks. Now to go catch up on all the things I missed while I was away.
