tickets to the gun show

acquiescenceFor a while now mom has been talking about wanting to go to the shooting range, we talked about getting her a gift certificate for a range near the house for Christmas, but that ended up falling through. It turns out though, the range has Lady's day on Mondays, with free gun rentals and half price lanes for women, so all you have to pay for is ammo.
So Mom, one of my sisters, my brother's girlfriend, and myself headed out to the shooting range this afternoon. (My brother tagged along too.)
I mean, the shop itself is very redneck what you see in movies when people walk in and are all shady wanting a gun and laying down cash and then walking out the same day with a gun. It was kind of like that, only ... with better lighting.
But yeah, mom and I rented two guns. One a bit smaller than the other because most of us had never done any shooting before (apart from bb guns, which totally don't count). And It was crazy, I just handed over my driver's license and signed a piece of paper that said I wasn't on drugs and they gave me a gun. It was that simple.
We got two lanes to share between the 5 of us, and we just went to town. We went through 4 boxes of ammo, and three guns in the end. The smallest gun they gave us to start with we decided sounded a bit too much like a cap gun so we traded it out for something with a bit more kick. I'm sure my brother remembers the types of guns we got, but yeah my memory is apparently not so great. I know the smallest one we got shot .22s the other guns used something bigger but had the same kind of design to it.
It was kind of crazy just how simple it was to go in there and get a gun and start shooting. I mean, I thought maybe we'd get some kind of tutorial at the very least about what we were doing. The guy at the counter talked us through how to hold the gun for like half a minute when we were renting the guns and that was it.
I had a really good time though, It was fun comparing shots, and seeing how we all improved from the start toward the end of our time there. I wouldn't mind doing it again some time.
