I don't write much J2 these days, I seem to have moved on in what I'm writing, but occasionally it does still happen. And this one happened during the RPF hurt/comfort meme a while back. And it's been sitting in my inbox for a while so I thought I'd post it.
Prompt: While filming 5.22 Jared has to pretend to hit Jensen for the scene at the cemetery but one hit goes a bit awry and Jared really does hit Jensen...hard
Jared knows he's not going to be able to pull the punch right about half an instant after he throws it, his aim is off and he's already pumped full of adrenaline thanks to several re-shoots of this scene, he's ready for it to be over, for Jensen to get out of that awful makeup and for their day to be over. This whole god dammed episode has been entirely too draining, and he just wants to be done.
The sound that his fist makes when it connects with Jensen's jaw is worse than the slide of bone against bone, or the splatter of real blood and not just the corn syrup and food coloring they usually use, or even the wincing groan that follows after the connection had been made. Hearing so clearly the result of his screw up - that's the worst, knowing that it's Jensen that'll be hurting from it.
"Fuck, fuck, fuck." Jared releases the hold he's had on Jensen's shirt and kneels down there right in the grass by the Impala and cradles Jensen's face between his hands. And it's hard to tell what is the result of his slip up and what's just really convincing makeup. "Jen, Jen are you okay?"
Jensen is clearly not okay, he's got a dazed look in his eyes and he groans reaching up to rub at his jaw where Jared had hit him.
"Hey can we get some water over here." Jared doesn't even turn his eyes from Jensen when he calls out for what he wants. "Say something, Jen."
"It's all right, I'm not going anywhere." Jensen quips, saying part of the line that was supposed to have come next before Jared had gone all Mike Tyson on his ass, though his voice is a bit slurred and the teasing tone, so familiar, is missing as Jensen tips his head back to lean against the Impala.
Jared huffs out a soft laugh and shakes his head, "Yeah I know, how's your head?" It's gotta be a good sign that Jensen is talking, even if he sounds pretty awful.
"M'fine." Jensen insists giving Jared a goofy grin, the sort that Jared knows he would never give him if he had remembered they were in public and some make-up girl or PA could see it and snap a picture sending all their fangirls into a tizzy, no matter how innocent the gesture.
"Course you are, can you get up?" Jared wonders, though he wasn't sure if that was actually a very good idea, but Jensen was awake and talking so it shouldn't be too bad to move him.
"Here's some water." Jared reaches out for it without looking and holds the cup to Jensen's lips. "Here drink this for me, okay?"
Jensen frowns and looks like he wants to argue, at least he's still out of it enough that it seems too hard for him to put together the words he needs to tell Jared that he doesn't actually want the water, and instead he drinks it slowly letting Jared tip the cup against his lips.
"Okay, let's get you on your feet." Jensen seems much more happy to comply with that suggestion and he's all ready pushing up off the ground before Jared even has a chance to get up off his knees. Thankfully Jensen is still a little slow and Jared is still quick as ever and they both manage to get to their feet without too many problems. "All right, I think you should sit down for a while."
And Jensen continues giving Jared a look that says he hates these ideas he's coming up with, but nods despite the look. "Fine, I think I'm done for the day anyway." Jensen doesn't bother looking at anyone to confirm, but seeing as he just got clocked in the jaw he probably deserves the rest of the day off.
"Yeah okay." Jared nods and puts his shoulder under Jensen's arm, hunching slightly so Jensen isn't tipped over, and helps him back toward the trailers.
"You know," Jensen starts up as they walk together. "It's a good thing you hit like a girl."
Jared laughs and shakes his head. "Does that mean you take a punch like a girl?" He shot back.
"Injured here, you're not allowed to suggest things like that about my character. In fact, I'm pretty sure it'll be months before you get that privilege back." Jared just rolls his eyes.
